SALCBC Congratulates Founding Director Kamaljit Lehal on receiving the King’s Counsel (KC) designation

The South Asian Legal Clinic of British Columbia (SALCBC) proudly congratulates Ms. Kamaljit Lehal, KC, a Founding Director of SALCBC, on receiving the King’s Counsel (KC) designation. This prestigious provincial honor recognizes members of the legal profession who have demonstrated exceptional merit, leadership, and contributions to the justice system in British Columbia.

Ms. Lehal, is the founder of Lehal Law, where her practice focuses on immigration law and mediation. A graduate of the University of British Columbia’s Peter A. Allard School of Law, she is nationally recognized for her leadership in immigration law and for her advocacy on behalf of survivors of gender-based violence. Her work has contributed to important policy reforms, including efforts supporting expedited immigration processes for women fleeing violence.

Her service to the legal community includes roles with the Civil Resolution Tribunal, the B.C. Review Board, and the Canadian Bar Association, where she served as Chair of the National Immigration Section. A dedicated mentor and community leader, Ms. Lehal continues to champion equity, diversity, and trauma-informed legal practice across the profession.

SALCBC is honoured to celebrate Ms. Lehal’s achievement and her longstanding commitment to access to justice and community service.
